USE OF Δ9-TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL: A TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING STUDY
The Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) is the main chemical substance with hallucinogenic characteristics present in Cannabis sativa L., beyond that psychotropic effect, many discoveries have been made also proving its analgesic, anxiolytic and anticonvulsant activity. Secondary metabolites from natural products, especially the Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (cannabinoids), have an important role in scientific and technological scenario at national and global level. The aim of this study was to technological foresight regarding the Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol and its application in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Were carried out search for patent applications on the basis World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European Patent Office (EPO), Bank of Latin American Patents (LATIPAT), Derwent Innovation Index (DII), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the National Institute of Industrial Property Brazil (INPI) with data collection in the months of March 2016. The results showed that WIPO is configured in the database with the largest number of patent applications, among the largest depositors are the United States and EPO. The largest number of patent applications was carried out in 2007. The most abundant patent classification was A61K subclass (medical, dental or hygiene purposes). The chemical and pharmaceutical sectors were predominant application of Δ9- THC.
