VALES DA UVA GOETHE: AN ANALYSIS OF THE INDICATION OF GEOGRAPHICAL INSTITUTIONALIZATION PROCESS FOR SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the process of institutionalization of the indication of origin in Brazil as the regional socio-economic development promoter. To this end, we studied the history of the recognition of the geographical indication in Brazil and the case of collective action which resulted in the implementation of the Geographical Indication (GI) for the Indication of Origin (IP) "Valleys of Goethe Grape". For the analysis of the history and the case study can identify thirteen steps to be observed by Brazilian plaintiffs IG to achieve the goal of adding value products in order to promote their own development and the entire region. One may even conclude that the institutionalization of IG has great advantages for the competitiveness of producers as well as to regional socioeconomic development that could provide opportunities to organize the production chain, deepen and share knowledge, establish technical criteria for production, contribute to the improve product quality, and promote the social, cultural and economic development of the region. However, the institutionalization of IG depends on the management of complex processes and this study is important to support this path, because with the mapped process and the clarity of the description of its stages facilitates the conscious involvement.
