UTILIZATION OF RECOVERED SÍLICA GEL AS STATIONARY PHASE TO PURIFICATION OF 5-n-PENTADECIL-2-tert-BUTYLPHENOL
Abstract
One of the main purposes of Green Chemistry is the development and application of chemical processes to reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances to the environment. Thus, considering the importance of environmentally safe methods, this work presents an alternative method of silica gel recovery aiming its use in chromatography column. In order to verify the efficiency of the procedure, samples of new, residual and recovered silica were analyzed by FTIR and UV-Vis. The results showed that the recovered silica is similar to the new silica and it doesn’t have remnants from the reagents applied in the technique. The recovered adsorbent was also effective for the 5-n-pentadecil-2-tert-butylphenol purification process, as proved by GCMS. According to the results, it can be inferred that the proposed methodology has a low cost, is useful and environmentally friendly since it contributes to reduce the generation of hazardous solid waste.
