USE OF SOFTWARE FOR SIMULATION PROCESS: AN APPLICATION FOR SOUR WATER STRIPPING UNITS OF OIL REFINERY
Abstract
The streams of sour water are processed water, so high cost to a refinery. The sour water in petroleum processing plant is a concerning stream because of their composition containing hydrogen sulfide in higher quantity (H2S) and ammonia with small amounts of other anions present as phenols, cyanides and CO2. The sour water strippers have high importance due to their environmental impact, as well as removing contaminants and the treated water is reused within the refinery. For simulation, commercial software Aspen Plus®, developed by Aspen Tech®, was used; Aspen Plus® is an appropriate tool for modeling, optimization and performance for the chemical industry. In the present paper was study the behavior of the vapor-liquid equilibrium of sour water stream, analyzing the effects of species present in the electrolyte separation process by NRTL model for electrolytes, ELECNRTL, simulating sour water stripping systems of refinery and evaluating the effects of process variables. It was obtained optimal operating conditions of the sour water stripping system due to specific process settings and evaluating of the stripping performance of the system.
