USE OF MOLECULAR MARKERS IN DEPRESSION: FORECASTING TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Depression is the most common psychiatric disorder, constituting a condition that includes
psychological symptoms, behavioral and physical. Knowledge about the presence or absence of
mutations in genes involved in the metabolism of antidepressants can provide important
information to assist in handling and choosing dosages of the drugs used for the treatment of
depression. The present study aimed to conduct a survey on the research already developed and
patented results on the use of molecular markers in depression. Prospecting was carried out based
on the patent applications filed in 4 analyzed databases, namely, National Institute of Industrial
Property (INPI) of Brazil, the European Patent Office (EPO), United States Patent and Trademark
Office (USPTO) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). After research it was found
a small number of patents, only 7 found in the databases analyzed, it is classified in three different
classes C12Q, A61K and A61B. However the clinical use of molecular markers in depression, still
requires substantial investment in obtaining data from IRAM studies provide important information
about this disease.
