THE MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANIES: AN ANALYSIS UNDER THE PERSPECTIVE OF ORGANIZATIONAL THEORIES
Abstract
This article examines the importance of innovation for companies in various industries under the
perspective of modern organizational theories. This is a review of the existing literature focusing on
the innovative features provided by the organizations and on the major organizational theories. The
discussion takes into account the main organizational theories grouped into four perspectives:
Contingency, Resource Dependence, Ecological and Neoinstitucional. Besides the literature on the subject, it also develops an analysis of secondary data on innovation presented in the latest edition
of the industry research for technological innovation from Brazilian Institute of Geography and
Statistics - IBGE, and other publications on the subject to strengthen theoretical propositions. Some
sectors of manufacturing and services industries that meet the key features found in innovative
organizations are presented and classified.
