TECHNOLOGICAL PROSPECTION OF Eugenia uniflora L. (MYRTACEAE)
Abstract
Eugenia uniflora, belonging to the Myrtaceae family, is a tree species native to the Atlantic Forest biome and known in Brazil as pitangueira. It is an edible fruit plant, the leaves's tea has application in folk medicine as hypotensive, antigota, stomachic and hypoglycemic. Exploited by the industries food, cosmetic and medicinal, is continuing studies target in relation to the essential oil chemical composition. This paper is an prospection and aims to map the patented researches regarding pitangueira. The prospection was based on applications for patents filed at the European Patent Office (EPO), at World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), at United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and in Brazil National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of with data collection in the months of August and September 2015. USPTO was the database that had the highest number of patent applications and INPI presented a reduced number involving E. uniflora. In the period 2006-2015, there was generally, an increase in the number of patent application also been found that the United States is the largest holder of patents, especially the sections A (Human needs) and and C (Chemistry; Metallurgy) of the International Classification of patents.
