TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING OF THE USE IN PROCESS OF MICROALGAE EXTRACTION OF CAROTENOIDS AIMED FOR SUPPLIES IN NUTRITION AND FEED
Abstract
Microalgae currently have great potential for use in industry due to their ability to produce biomass rich in biologically active compounds such as carotenoids. Given this situation, this study aimed to perform a study of technology foresight to collect information about techniques for extracting carotenoids in microalgae. To perform the patent search, we used the database of the European Patent Office (Espacenet). When evaluating the scenario was found that to Japan (23) was the country with the largest number of patent documents and that Brazil has no patent document regarding this technology. From the 80's there is a greater presence of patent applications (3-8). The main areas of application of patent documents are extracted (44), culture (23) and biotechnology (14). Algae (54%) are the main microorganism involved in the processes of extraction of carotenoids and that the main pigments such processes are researched in the -carotene (32%) and astaxanthin (10%) being the microalga Dunaliella sp (22) the most used. Note, therefore that Brazil needs more effective policies and investments to change this scenario.
