TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING OF SUNSCREENS DERIVED OF NATURAL PRODUCTS
Abstract
Ultraviolet radiation is responsible for causing cumulative damage to the skin, and may progress to
more severe pathologies such as skin cancer, for example. The use of sunscreens is an alternative to
prevent these diseases. Currently, sunscreens have been developed from vegetable products, with
good popular acceptance. The aim of this study was to perform a technological forecasting of
sunscreens derived from natural products, analyzing Brazil’s participation in the deposits of patent
applications in national and international databases. For this, the technological forecasting was
conducted in the European Patent Office, the Bank of World Intellectual Property Organization, the
Bank of America Patent and Trademark Office Database and the National Institute of Industrial
Property of Brazil. The international classification in this forecasting survey that was most abundant was A61K. The highest number of patents has been deposited in the last 10 years. Among
the biggest depositors are China, United States, Japan and Republic of Korea.
