SUPPLIER STRATEGY IN THE SOYBEAN INDUSTRY: CASE STUDY
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze and identify the most appropriate strategies for the supply of four representative inputs to the production process in soy protein manufacturing. The research method is the case study. Four of the most important inputs of soy protein plant were studied. In the literature review, four scenarios were identified for the strategic supply chain: efficient, agile, risk hedge, and responsive supply chains. Attributes of competitiveness were allocated to each scenario. In the case study, we studied the relevant attributes to four inputs: soy, bromelain, caustic soda and plastic packaging. According to the attributes identified, a preferred strategic scenario has been allocated to each input. The results were: caustic soda and plastic packaging: efficient supply chain; bromelain and soybean: supply chain with risk protection. Additional strategic considerations were made regarding the supplies of these inputs.
