SOFT SYSTEM METHODOLOGY IN COMPLEX PROBLEM SOLVING AND INNOVATION: AN ANALYSIS OF PUBLICATIONS IN INTERNATIONAL JOURNALS
Abstract
Innovation, while maintaining the company’s strength against the competition, can be justified by
the constant search for improvement of their performance. It can be understood as an effort to build
a network aiming at the creation, adoption and implementation of a set of ideas that involve human
components, organizational and technological. And one way to structure and understand this
complex set of variables getting innovation as the final solution, is through the application of Soft
System Methodology, a systemic methodology that aims solve complex problems. Thus, this paper
aims to present and discuss the contributions to innovation and its activities in the application of
this methodology in solving problems. The work is characterized as theoretical-conceptual,
conducting a literature review through a search for publications to databases Scopus, Web of
Science, ScienceDirect and Scielo, followed by an organization and verification of these. The
analysis allowed separation of work areas by applying the methodology, where the area of
management had a greater number of publications, as well as the construction of tables presenting
the contributions to innovation and its activities. The study also identified a shortage in
publications that relate the Soft System Methodology to innovation.
