SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL PROSPECTION: MONOTERPENE GAMMA TERPINENE AND PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES
Abstract
Medicinal plants have essential oils that are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry and possess terpenoids as major constituents. Among these terpenoids, monoterpenes are the most representative class, constituting 90% of them, and have various pharmacological activities described as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant and anticonvulsant, among others. This study aimed to map the scientific and technological research in the last ten years with the gamma terpinene and pharmacological activities: antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Prospecting was carried out in scientific (Pubmed, Web of Science and ScienceDirect) and technological (INPI, EPO, USPTO, WIPO) bases. In scientific research was not found work with the pharmacological activities of interest. Few patents on technological bases with a single pharmacological-related activity were found (antioxidant). The data reveal a promising compound, since there are few documents with focus on gamma terpinene and pharmacological activities.
