SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING OF THE GENUS SIMABA Aubl. (SIMAROUBACEAE)
Abstract
The genus Simaba Aubl. belongs to Simaroubaceae Family, and it has approximately 35 species distributed in South America. There are few species studied chemically, and the metabolites isolated from plants of this family belong to the classes of quassinoids, alkaloids, triterpenes and other constituents. The aim of this study was to conduct a scientific and technological forecasting of the genus Simaba in databases European Patent Office (EPO), National Institute of Industrial Property - Brazil (INPI), Bank of Latin American Patents (LATIPAT), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Capes Periodicals, Science Direct, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Scopus and Web of Science. Five patents related to genus Simaba were found and published on the databases EPO, USPTO and WIPO, between the years 1992 to 2012, receiving ratings in subclasses A61K, A61Q, A61P, A61L, C12N and C07D. The articles published with genus Simaba plants are indexed in the following databases of scientific publications: Capes (166), Science Direct (121), SciELO (7), Scopus (47) and Web of Science (64). The results of technological forecasting, involving genus Simaba demonstrated a reduction in the interest of new products in recent years. The research revealed that three of the five patents placed are related to the manufacture of cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions involved in the treatment of skin depigmentation, including vitiligo.
