RULES FOR PRIORITIZATION IN FLEXIBLE PRODUCTION SEQUENCING FOR FINITE NUMBER OF WORK CENTERS
Abstract
This study was developed in a medium size metalwork plant located in the south of Brazil that
produces parts and components for harvesteing combine machines. Raw material are steel sheets
and structural steel tubes. Main operations are cutting, punching, laser cutting, bending and
welding. Research methods were observation and analysis. Production scheduling is one of the
most complex activities in operations management. It deals primarily with timing the start and ending of tasks, while detailing intermediary activities, use of resources, as well as machine time.
Moreover it is necessary that tasks are synchronized in such a way that the total time of component
production and assembly is minimized. An heuristic method was used to achieve the desired results
in scheduling. It was realized at the end of study that priority in each work center can be set in a
way that minimizes the whole time of production.
