RESEARCH ON TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTION CAPACITY AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF RECONCAVO BAHIA
Abstract
The creation of Centers of Innovation in Institutions of Science and Technology has resulted in steady growth in the number of technological products protected by intellectual property (IP), especially in the context of universities. The Federal University of Reconcavo of Bahia (UFRB) there between researchers more concerned with the dissemination of research results through scientific publications than its protection for IP rights. This research investigated the potential of UFRB in production technology and protection of intellectual property generated by the institution process, using as main focus patent documents deposited at the National Institute of Industrial Property. It was found that there are only 13 technology products protected by IP rights. In contrast, the number of projects will Scholarship Program Started in Technological Development and Innovation reached 52 and the defenses of dissertations, theses and monographs was even higher, reaching 252 papers defended in graduate school. Thus, UFRB has a productivity that could have resulted in many products, processes or services with innovative potential. It was found that the dissemination of the culture of IP protection, including at the undergraduate and graduate discussions about IP rights and the monitoring of potential innovative projects are key to increasing the number of production technology and protection of rights IP in UFRB.
