REGARDING CITIZENSHIP: PROVIDING WEB ACCESSIBILITY IN THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF SERGIPE (UFS)
Abstract
Access to information facilitated by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is one of
the main elements of the knowledge society, being seen as a possibility for social inclusion.
However, some individuals have needs, permanent or temporary, that limit access to information
available, keeping them to the periphery of society. This paper aims to discuss web accessibility,
discussing the standards, guidelines and techniques for designing accessible webapps. As well,
exposing the concept of assistive technologies and how they fit with computational functionalities to
Internet users with special needs helping them in navigation. Finally, describe a case study
conducted at the site POSGRAP - UFS aiming Sergipana enable the community to include
providing accessibility to products and services of the UFS.
