PROSPECTIVE STUDY ABOUT ANTINEOPLASIC PROPERTIES OF PLANTS FROM FABACEAE FAMILY: EMPHASIS IN Mimosa caesalpiniifolia
Abstract
The demand for use of alternative methods to treat cancer is increasing every year, and studies suggest cytotoxic and antitumor action of a large number of plant molecules against different types of cancer. Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth. is a plant native from the biome “Caatinga”, present in the Brazilian Northeast region that has been extensively cultivated from Maranhão to Rio de Janeiro and is a promising tree in the search for novel molecules with antineoplasic activities. In this context, this work aimed to make a scientific and technological exploration on the use of this plant species in cancer treatments. This prospective survey showed that patents have been depositated in the bases Word Intellectual Property Organization and European Patent Office, with the international classification mainly in the fields of medical science or veterinary hygiene and (A61K) and food, food products or non-alcoholic beverages (A23L). The scientific production is allocated mainly in the areas of medicin, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutial and biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, with higher production of publications in our current decade, demonstrating the interest of the scientific community.
