PRODUCTION OF AMINOACIDS AND DERIVATIVES: FORECASTING TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Aminoacids form a highly diverse class of compounds that are essential for sustaining life and which have great potential biotechnological applications. In that sense, this research aims to provide a general and comparative understanding on the protection of intellectual propriety, when dealing with the production of amino acids and derivatives, in Brazil and in the rest of the world. The data mining was carried out using Instituto NAcional da Propriedade Intelectual (INPI)’s and the Worldwide-Espacenet’s databanks, from which data regarding the publication year and the country which holds the deposit was collected for each of the twenty primary amino acids up until November 2014. It is remarkable how few patents Brazil holds in comparison to the rest of the world, in particular to countries with similar economical scenarios, which raises questions as to what makes the development of intellectual propriety (and its transition to products) so inefficient in that country.
