PROCESS OF BIOGAS GENERATION FROM THE REUSE OF HEAVY GLYCERIN PHASE AND HOUSEHOLD ORGANIC WASTE
Abstract
In front of the environmental problems currently faced from the destination of organic and industrial waste, this project aims to produce biogas from the reuse of household organic waste and heavy glycerin phase (a by-product originated from the biodiesel production). Until recently, biogas was just known as a by-product obtained from the anaerobic decomposition of waste. However, the rapid economic development in recent years and the accentuated rise in the price of conventional fuels have encouraged the investigations at production of energy from new and renewable sources economically attractive. Therefore, using an anaerobic digester, tests were performed with different amounts of organic waste and heavy glycerin phase in order to evaluate the most favorable condition for the production of biogas. In addition, it has been aimed to propose an application on a larger scale than previously performed in the laboratory using manure coming from pig farming, since the animal waste represents high proportion of biomass, its use in recycling systems is extremely important in economic and environmental aspects making it an excellent raw material in the production of biogas. After analyzing the generated biogas, either from organic waste as the pig manure, it was found that the procedures applied were satisfactory.
