POTENTIAL TECHNOLOGICAL OF THE USE OF CELLULOSE NANOCRYSTALS IN POLYMERS COMPOSITES THROUGH THE PROSPECTION IN PATENT DOCUMENTS
Abstract
The cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have been evaluated and employed increasingly in the development of polymer composites with economic, social and environmental sustainability, because of the potential properties of these materials. This article analyzes the evolution and the interest of companies and institutions in technology associated with the CNCs, from information and extracted indicators of patent documents from 1991 to 2014. It was found growing patenting associated with CNCs, with a significant increasing the number of companies and institutions holders of patents, mainly from the decade of 2012, reflecting the possible decentralization of the market in the growing interest in technologies associated with the CNCs. Brazil, despite its prominence in the production of natural fibers, has little presence in the global patenting. The importance of patent analysis for the monitoring of evolving technologies and interests, the availability of public information that can be turned into useful indicators for technology analysis and market associated with sisal or other technology areas also has been verified.
