POLYMERS MUCOADHESIVES FOR VAGINAL USE: A TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING
Abstract
New systems capable of improving drug delivery has been widely studied and with particular
emphasis on systems involving mucoadhesive polymers to act on the vaginal mucosa. Recent studies
show that the vagina is also an important route for administration of medication and has the
advantages such as less exposure to systemic action and side effects. The prospecting had the
objective patent search and analysis on the bases European Patent Office (EPO), World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), State
Intellectual Property Office Of The P.R.C. (SIPO) and the database of the National Institute of
Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil. The basis of the WIPO showed significant results for all
search terms, presented a summation of 231 applications for patent filings for all search terms and
16 deposits for specific terms of the analysis, found between 2005 to 2012 and featuring the same
international classification (A61K), other bases did not show any results for those terms.
