Abstract
The aim of this study was to conduct a literature review from articles, dissertations and theses, and a prospect based on search for patents to display a general overview of pharmacological and technological applications related the use of cashew gum (CG). Portal Periodicos Capes, ScienceDirect and Web of ScienceTM were accessed to search for publications and patents databases: USPTO, EPO, WIPO and INPI to search for patents relating to implementation of CG in the pharmaceutical, food and area nanotechnology. There were only 4 pharmacological activities for CG: healing, antibacterial, gastroprotective and anti-diarrheal. Furthermore, they found only two registers of patents in the EPO related to technological application of CG. However, there was no patent CG related to nanotechnology, showing that the search field is very wide in this area. Therefore, are biggest needed investment and the technological application of CG in pharmaceutical and food.
