PHARMACEUTICAL APPLICATION OF PROTEASE INHIBITORS: AN FORECASTING TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Proteases are proteolytic enzymes that degrade proteins by specific peptide bonds break. Many
proteases are associated with diseases like cancer, osteoporosis, neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases, as well as parasitic diseases, bacterial or viral, since they are involved in
the pathogenesis of various diseases that may be good therapeutic targets together with their
inhibitors specific protease. This prospect was to analyze patents involving these inhibitors with
pharmaceutical applications. Prospecting was carried out based on the patent applications filed in
4 analyzed databases, namely, National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil, the
European Patent Office (EPO), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). After research it was found only 13 patents, showing
that in 2007 was the peak of deposit and the United States and France stand as the largest
depository, and demonstrating to the international classification A61K was most abundant, which is
preparations for medical purposes, dental or hygienic. However, it was observed that there remains
a small number of patents, necessitating a greater interest in the pharmaceutical application of
protease inhibitors.
