PERSPECTIVES VITIVINICULTURE DEVELOPMENT IN VIEW OF THE RECOGNITION OF GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION VALES DA UVA GOETHE
Abstract
The opening of new markets and the speed movement of goods required new ways of
regulation among different countries and definition of international rules of public nature.
During the last decades an institutional context is establishing – rules and standards of trade,
consumer demands, technology used, general and sectorial policies and cultural traits that
condition economy and society – that already conditions and will continue to condition, on a
substantial way, the productive and technological dynamics of all production chains in the
agribusiness. New niche markets have emerged, providing strategies to value the product. The
notion of geographical indication (GI) emerged gradually, when producers and consumers
started to perceive flavors or peculiarities in some products coming from particular places. In
this context, the GI are inserted on the global movement of market segmentation, valuing
territorial resources.
