OBTENÇÃO DE AUXILIAR DE FLOCULAÇÃO A PARTIR DE RESÍDUOS DE SEMENTES DE FRUTAS VISANDO O TRATAMENTO DE ÁGUA
Abstract
This study aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of using of waste fruit seeds as aid to flocculation in water treatment. The biomaterials used were seeds Mangaba (Hancornia speciosa), Passionflower (Passiflora edulis), Soursop (Annona muricata) and guava (Psidium guajava). The seeds were also used with chemical modification using citric acid, ammonium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide. The seeds were washed and dried at 170 °C for 1h30 min and after crushed. The batch tests of removing color, Fe ions and turbidity were performed using Jar Test. Synthetic water was used in the treatment and prepared with clay with particle size 100 mesh. The batch tests were developed using rapid mixing speed of 150 rpm for 1 min, slow mixing speed of 30 rpm for 15 min, 1.5 ml of ferric sulphate coagulant, 3 drops of potassium permanganate and auxiliary flocculation (seed powder). All tests were performed at pH set at 6.0. The determination of turbidity was performed using the nephelometric method. The iron and color analysis was performed by spectrophotometry. The average removal of Fe ions was 53% using biomaterials mangaba and soursop. For turbidity and apparent color obtained a removal percentage of around 90% for all biomaterials.
