NATURAL PRODUCTS APPLIED A NEGLECTED DISEASES: TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING
Abstract
The use of natural products is an innovative alternative to the research and development of new
targeted drugs for the treatment of neglected tropical diseases. These are a group of diseases that
have high prevalence rates in emerging countries where sanitary conditions and poor health are contributing to the high standards of morbidity associated with this group of diseases. In this
context, the development of new pharmaceuticals prototypes based on natural products is important
because it contributes to the treatment of these diseases. This prospecting aimed to conduct a prior
art search and provide an overview of the current state of scientific and technological development
related to the use of natural products with applications in neglected diseases. For both prospecting
was carried out on the database of the National Institute of Industrial Property, European Patent
Office, United States Patent and Trademark Office and the World Intellectual Property
Organization. It is found that the extensive use of natural products, but when they are applied to
neglected diseases is observed a large gap that can be filled with research that can serve as a tool
for the technological development of phytomedications for the treatment of these diseases.
