MARKET RESEARCH FOR VETERINARY MEDICINE’S R&D FOR CATTLE IN BRAZIL
Abstract
The brazilian veterinary medicines industry has challenges related to product innovation. Embrapa Cattle Southeast operates in a research line on alternative parasite control in cattle. Innovation networks are an important strategy to catalyze the achievement of R&D results in this sector. This paper is a veterinary medicines market prospective study, with focus on cattle in Brazil, looking for partnership opportunities for innovation. The results indicate that the veterinary medicines market in Brazil is concentrated and has dispersed customers. The most relevant features of this industry are related to intensity in capital and R&D, strong interdependence between the segments, complex production structure and technological dependence. The study identified six major global companies, two of them based on brazilian capital and other regional small businesses, occupying market niches. About the antiparasitic, there are many products available in the market, however they use few active ingredients. There are partnership opportunities in the researches developed at Embrapa Cattle Southeast, especially in alternative parasite control in livestock
