KETOCONAZOLE MICROEMULSION FOR INCORPORATION IN SHAMPOO
Abstract
Superficial fungal infections may manifest themselves in various regions of the body, including the scalp, where the dandruff and the seborrheic dermatitis, related to the fungus Malassezia furfur, are among the most prevalent. The ketoconazole shampoo is the treatment of choice to combat such infections. Advances in pharmaceutical technology have produced innovative carrier system drugs, aiming increases in solubility, release and/or distribution of active ingredients, among them the microemulsion. In this context, the objective was to formulate a ketoconazole microemulsion for incorporation in shampoo. For preparation of microemulsion systems and construction of the phase diagram, used different mixing ratios surfactant/cosurfactant Polyethyleneglycol 400/Ethanol, soybean oil as the oil phase and distilled water as the aqueous phase. The microemulsion that was composed of 4% of ketoconazole, 90% surfactant mixture, 4% soybean oil and 6% distilled water, showing solubilization efficiency of the active ingredient 40 mg/mL. Formulations basis shampoo, shampoo with ketoconazole and ketoconazole microemulsion shampoo, were manipulated and evaluated for sensory characteristics, pH and viscosity, with satisfactory results on these parameters. The determination of the active content in shampoos, it was performed by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. It was verified 95% m/v of the ketoconazole in microemulsion shampoo, while the conventional shampoo with ketoconazole presented a percentage of 63% m/v active. The microemulsion systems were, therefore, effective in solubilization the ketoconazole active.
