GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS (GIS) AS A TOOL FOR DEVELOPMENT: A TECHNOLOGICAL PROSPECTION OF THE GIS CONCERNING FLOUR AND MANIOC IN THE WORLD, AND THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE PROJECT FOR MANIOC FLOUR COPIOBA AT THE RECÔNCAVO OF BAHIA
Abstract
Geographical Indications are qualifications for products and services awarded by genuine characteristics that connect them to their producing region of origin. In the global market, which has intensified the cultural, touristic and economic relations between continents of the world, GIs are emerging as a tool for local, regional, national and international development. In northeastern Brazil, the Network of Technological Innovation Network (Rede NIT-NE – a technology transfer offices), present in universities has developed formation on Intellectual Property, among which the IG. In this scenario, emerges the public policy Supporting Characterization of Geographical Indications in Bahia, of the Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado da Bahia (FAPESB). This article presents a technological prospection of the GIs concerning flour and manioc in the world, and the deployment of one of the projects approved in this Notice: IG potential for manioc flour Copioba at the Recôncavo of Bahia.
