FERULIC ACID AND CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: A TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING
Abstract
The properties of the extracts obtained from vegetable sources, being gradually replaced the use of
these active substances isolated. The ferulic acid is a phenolic compound present in the leaves and
seeds of various plants and is a bioactive ingredient in many foods which have effects on the central nervous system. This prospecting aimed to perform a survey on the research already developed and
patented results of ferulic acid and its properties on the central nervous system. Therefore,
exploration was carried out in the Database of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI)
of Brazil, the European Patent Office (EPO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office
(USPTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). After prospecting was
observed only two patents for the years 2006 and 2008, both in session A (human needs) with class
A61K (preparations for medical purposes, or dental hygiene) and different subclasses. Thus, there
is a great need to encourage the development of research related to this association. As well, there
is a technological field to be filled, and one promising study for research and development of
technological innovations to fill the gaps on the subject of this exploration.
