EXPLORATION TECHNOLOGY OF LIPID EMULSION IN NUTRITION THERAPY PARENTERAL
Abstract
The parenteral nutritional support occurs when the patient is unable to use the enteral route for a preset time. In this therapy, fatty acids are provided via parenteral lipid emulsions. Some EL stand out as potential sources of lipids for Parenteral Nutrition Therapy (NPT), with a view containing components with interesting properties to critical patients. This objective technological forecasting survey the main bases of new formulations containing EL patents for use in the NPT. This research was conducted based on patents filed by January/2014 the following basis: European Patent Office (EPO); World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO); National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil. The following parameters were used: Emulsion / Lipid Emulsion OR / AND Lipid Nutrition Parenteral / Parenteral nutrition. We conducted exploratory reading titles and abstracts and then the patent applications were selected through and results that addressed technological development of EL formulations for parenteral nutrition therapy. Were found a total of 88 patents: WIPO (58), EPO (24) USPTO (5) and PTO (1). United States had the highest number of patents and Brazil proved its shortage with only one patent filed.
