EVOLUTION OF THE PROTECTION OF TRADITIONAL PRODUCTS
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the evolution of the system of protection of traditional products in
Brazil, which are the Geographical Indications. Geographical indications are protected forms of
organizations producing regions, aimed at the enhancement of local potential. This is a means local
development. A region that has the stamp of a geographical region stands out as producer and
assists deeply into local production processes. It was found that there are several in Brazil already
registered geographical indications, however, the potential for the development of new very large,
further, considering that the products of a geographical market has greater penetration, since they are products of recognized fame with manufacturing processes, handling and / or crop in a unified
manner and with procedural safeguards by producers and surveillance. Thus, only a disclosure and
work to different regions of potential internalization Brazil will be able to create new geographical
indications and can be placed on the world map as a producer with controlled and guaranteed
origin.
