EQUIPMENTS USED FOR TREATMENT OF PRODUCED WATER IN THE OIL INDUSTRY: TEMPORAL ASPECT
Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze equipments used for treatment of produced water in the oil
industry based on patents and scientific publications search. One hundred and ten patents were
granted from 1975 to 2014. The prospection of patents documents were done in the Derwent
Innovations Index (v.5.16.1) patents database. Informations used for the search were: depositor’s
name, country where the patent was deposited, IPC (Internet Patent Classification) and deposite
year. The IPC classifies and helps to elaborate industrial properties statics, allowing an evaluation
of technological development in several areas. B01D-017/02; B09B-003/00; C02F-001/40; C02F-
001/52; C10G-001/00 were employed IPCs. Three hundred seventy seven patents were found with
the aforementioned IPCs. For the scientific publications search, the following sites were used: WEB
OF SCIENCE®, SCIENCE DIRECT® e SCOPUS®. The keywords employed were separation and
oil and water, separation and oil, separation and water, separation and mechanical process,
separation and water and oil and mechanical process. It provided 1.853.949 scientific publications
from 1986 to 2015. Therefore, scientific articles published and patents deposited related to
equipments used for treatment of produced water in the oil industry were characterized regarding
the temporal aspect.
