DEVELOPMENT OF CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE FILMS FOR ENCAPSULATION OF DRUGS: TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING
Abstract
The carboxymethylcellulose polysaccharide is a cellulose derivative with applications in the form of
film encapsulation processes and controlled release of active ingredients. This work aimed to perform a technological forecasting of carboxymethylcellulose in obtaining films for encapsulation
of drugs. Papers were published in the database of Web of Science and patent filings bases EPO,
WIPO, INPI and USPTO. With the combination of terms, carboxymethylcellulose, film and drug,
the search resulted in a total of 17 patents that after analysis found that Japan and South Korea
were the largest depositors in the international databases. INPI was found only a deposit, but the
film did not have carboxymethylcellulose medical application. About the articles, only 35 described
research using carboxymethylcellulose films for drug encapsulation. England and Scotland were
the countries that have excelled in publication, with 5 and 4 articles published respectively.
According to the results of this exploration in Brazil, carboxymethylcellulose films can be a field
with potential for the research development and technology innovation in the pharmaceutical field,
due to the small number of patents filed in different researched bases and published articles.
