CLAYS IN COSMETOLOGY: FORECASTING TECHNOLOGY BASED ON PATENTS AND ARTICLES
Abstract
The usage of clays with technological characteristics has aroused great interest from industries in
several field, because it is clay mineral plentiful in Brazil and economically viable, as well as, being
dumped do not harm the environment. Among its applications, highlights to cosmetology, which are
related with rheological properties, suspension and emulsion stability, and controlled liberation of
specific substances. This prospection was done, using INPI, EPO and USPTO basis of patent and
scientific Web of Science. Data show China as the greatest patent holder in cosmetic field, with 26
patents, Brazil with 12 patents is on the third place, which shows advance in research of protection
over these products. The major part of these patents can be found in cosmetic preparations, used
with moisturizer and detergent formulas. Scientific issues show the United States leading the issues
ranking. Prospection demonstrates clay research in cosmetic field is promising, being the type
vermiculite clay has great technological potential for application in cosmetics.
