CHITOSAN IN COMPOSITION OF FORMS MUCOADHESIVE OF RELEASE OF DRUGS: A TECHNOLOGICAL FORECASTING
Abstract
The mucoadhesive devices can improve drug efficacy while maintaining its concentration in plasma
at therapeutic levels for prolonged periods of time. Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide produced by
deacetylation of chitin, a structural element in the exoskeleton of crustaceans and insects, has
special characteristics that make them important pharmaceutical excipient, allows good adhesion
in epithelial tissues and mucus. Considering that chitosan has several advantages, this study aimed
to conduct a technological forecasting on the use of chitosan the composition of mucoadhesive
forms, performing search in the deposits of patent applications in national and international
databases. For this, the prospect was held at the European Patent Office (Spacenet), the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office
(USPTO) and the database of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil. Among
the largest depositors France, Norway and the United States. It was also observed an increased
number of patents deposited in 2005 and 2009. Regarding the origin of depositors was seen that
companies are the largest holders of patent applications. All patents found are part of the same
group in the international patent classification, A61K.
