ASSESSMENT OF DESALINATION TECHNOLOGY IN WATER FROM THE ANALYSIS OF PATENTS APPLICATIONS
Abstract
Desalination of sea water began to become important to produce water supply on ships and today it
is an affordable solution to the problem of shortage of fresh water. Given this situation, this study
aimed to evaluate the technological advances in desalination, once found the problem of water
shortages expected in the coming decades. To perform the patent search, we used the base of the
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the database of the National Institute of
Industrial Property (INPI). Assessing the global scenario and Brazil, in relation to documents of
patent applications, we can characterize the exploration on the desalination plant is in constant
development, especially from the year 2000 and, especially in international classifications and
separations related to treatment water. However, the data show that in the case of desalination by means of solar technologies is a promising area, given the relatively low number of requests for
deposits with this technology, especially in the Brazilian scenario.
