Barriers to Interaction University – Company: a Study of UFPE in the Pharmaceutical Sector of Pernambuco
Abstract
To investigate the factors that discourage interaction between universities and companies to foster
innovation in the pharmaceutical segment, marked by intense investment in innovation, we
investigated the experiences of researchers from the Department of Pharmacy of the Federal
University of Pernambuco (UFPE) with local sector. Through interviews with researchers and
company representatives, it was possible to observe elements that separate the two parts of an
interaction marked by incentive to innovation, among them we identified the bureaucracy to
formalize partnerships, the criticism about the timing of the companies, the lack of training in
innovation management in universities and lack of a culture of innovation in the two poles. The
conclusion is that it is urgent to train human resources and carry out communication focused on
innovation in order to foster a culture of innovation in the sector in order to promote public policies
in this area.
