APLICAÇÃO DE TERPENOS COMO AGENTES ANALGÉSICOS: UMA PROSPECÇÃO TECNOLÓGICA
Abstract
Pain rated as the 5th vital sign, is the main reason for seeking health care and drug consumption, and directly impact quality of life and the work activities of the wearer. For these reasons, the search for effective molecules for the control of painful conditions and low side effects has grown over the years. Plants and compounds derived always provide alternatives for the control of pain and eventually to the development of analgesic drugs. In this context are included the terpenes, which are endowed with various pharmacological activities, including analgesic properties. Thus, the goal of this study was to perform a screening of patent applications on the analgesic effect of terpenes yet. For this, the search was conducted in the European Patent Office, World Intellectual Property Organization, United States Patent and Trademark Office and in the National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil. Were found 39 patents, published between 1979 to 2014. The largest number of patents was for monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Countries with highest number of patents were the United States and China. Major depositors were industries and universities and the most abundant IPCs that were A61K and A61P. It was possible to see a growing interest in developing new drugs containing terpenes for control of pain. In Brazil, the difficulties encountered in the process of patenting may have contributed to their poor performance.
