AGATHISFLAVONE, A BIOFLAVONOID WITH PHARMACOLOGY APPLICATIONS TO THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: THE CURRENT OVERVIEW
The phenolic compounds form one of the main classes of secondary metabolites synthesized by plants, among these is possible highlight the flavonoids. The bioflavonoids, one of the classes of flavonoids, have diverse biological properties inherent to the group as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumour, among others). The agatisflavona is a flavonoid that has been shown in in vitro and in vivo previous studies, activities: neuroprotective and antiepileptic. The objective of this research was to carry out a scientific and technological prospective on the bioflavonoid agathisflavone and their pharmaceutical applications in related pathologies to Central Nervous System (CNS). The EndNote-X5 software was used as a reference, with the keywords: agathisflavone, antioxidant, anxiolytic, neuroprotective, antidepressant and their correlations in English and Portuguese. Were used published documents in the database of PubMed, Science direct, Scopus, Periodicals of Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), Web of Science and the American Chemical Society (ACS), in European Bank for Patents (EPO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in American Bank of Trademarks and Patents (USPTO) and the National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil (NIIP). From a scientific point of view, the agathisflavone presents a large number of publications on its pharmacological activities (antimicrobial, antiviral, anticarcinogenic), and stands out as a compound potentially active on the CNS (neurotoxicity, neurogenesis, decrease the in CNS excitability). However, these were not verified deposits of patents that correlate the bioflavonoid agathisflavone the neurological disorders. This fact in turn, allows for the development of innovative research on the pharmacological actions of agathisflavone, in particular to the CNS.
