ACCESS TO INFORMATION ON URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE THROUGH THE BRAZILIAN PHILATELY
Abstract
The postal stamp may well be another powerful way of communicating science, to persuade societies, in general, about the relevance of scientific research and what was made in the different areas of the knowledge. Within this context, this work deals with the information contained in the images printed on postage stamps issued by Brazil. We present a retrospect of the birth and usage of postage stamps, it´s cultural face and the evolution of issues. We have analyzed all Brazilian stamps issued from 1843 to 2015, separating and classifying those with connotations in the areas related to urban infrastructure and engineering. We present a statistical distribution of postage stamps according to these scientific areas and description of some of them. It is proposed that the postal stamps can be used as an additional tool for teaching and learning in the subjects in a course of science disciplines. It was possible to observe that the results obtained of this work reveal that Brazilian philately is fulfilling its role of disseminating the various branches of engineering and urban infrastructure.
